Peacock Mantis Shrimp

MEET ROCKY

The Peacock Mantis Shrimp is known for its vibrant, striking colors and incredibly powerful punch, which it uses to break open the shells of its prey. Growing up to 7 inches long, it can strike with the force of a bullet, allowing it to hunt small fish and crustaceans. Found in the warm, tropical waters of the Indo-Pacific region, these shrimp live in burrows on the seafloor, where they spend much of their time waiting for prey. Their eyes are among the most complex in the animal kingdom, with the ability to detect a vast range of colors and polarized light, far beyond what humans can perceive. This remarkable vision helps them navigate their underwater environment and spot potential prey from great distances.
