Two Spot Octopus

MEET OLLY & HER BABIES

Olly has moved behind the scenes. She laid a festoon (group of octopus eggs) and they started to hatch! Only about 1–2% of octopus hatchlings survive to adulthood. With a low survival rate, it is by design that an octopus egg clutch is so large with some species reaching 500,000 eggs per clutch!

We hope to raise one of the hatchlings here in our aquarium!

Female octopuses give all of their energy to their little ones. Sadly, they pass away shortly after their eggs hatch.
